THIRD EYE CHAKRA

AJNA

The third eye chakra or brow chakra is referred to as the sixth chakra and is located on the forehead, between the eyebrows.

“Heal the chakra that influences self-reflection identity, intuition, and clarity of sight.”

SIXTH CHAKRA

Sanskrit Ajna

The term “Ajna” is derived from Sanskrit and means “perception” or “command.”

Ajna is described as a lotus flower with two petals, the components of duality.  The two physical eyes see the past and the present, while the third eye reveals the insight of the future. The seed syllable is AUM, or “Pranava OM”, the supreme sound.

This chakra is often depicted as an indigo or deep blue lotus flower and is linked to intuition, perception, insight, and self-awareness.  We perceive where we are going, see the pattern, “Oh, I see!”. The center where we go beyond duality – the duality of a personal “I” separate from the rest of the world, of a personality that exists independently from everything else, the boundary between human and divine consciousness.  It involves abilities and skills in reasoning with clarity and in evaluating attitudes and beliefs.

Harish Johari in his book, Chakras: Energy Centres of Transformation, says “a yogi who has passed through the Vishuddha Chakra at the throat to the Ajna Chakra transcends the five elements Earth-Water-Fire-Air-Ether and becomes freed (mukta) from the bondage of time-bound consciousness. This is where the I-consciousness is absorbed into Super-consciousness.”

Your intuition is like a “sixth sense” that grows stronger as you open your third eye, something you can look to for guidance in making the right decisions; pay attention to a hunch or a subtle feeling of moving forward or holding back.  If you are conflicted, ask for your sense of intuition to be opened in order to help you make the right choice. So, an open sixth chakra can enhance clarity, imagination, clairvoyance, and telepathy for examples.

THE ELEMENT OF LIGHT

Ajna chakra, third eye chakra

In terms of metaphorical connection with the element of light, the third eye is often associated with illumination, clarity, and inner vision. Light, in this context, represents knowledge, wisdom, awareness, and enlightenment.

Here’s how the metaphorical connection between the third eye and the element of light is often understood:

Illumination and Clarity: The third eye is often depicted as a source of light or having the ability to “see the light” metaphorically. It symbolizes the illumination of the mind and the clarity of perception that comes with spiritual awakening and awareness.

Insight and Awareness: Light is often seen as a symbol of awareness and insight. The third eye is associated with gaining a deeper understanding of oneself, others, and the universe, similar to how light brings clarity and illuminates what was previously hidden or unclear.

Intuition and Perception: Light is often associated with perception and intuition. The third eye is considered a center of intuition and inner vision, allowing one to “see” beyond the physical realm and gain insights that go beyond ordinary sight.

Connection to the Divine: In some belief systems, the third eye is seen as a link to higher spiritual realms and divine knowledge. Light, being a symbol of purity and divinity, is associated with this connection, allowing individuals to access higher states of consciousness and understanding.

Overall, the metaphorical connection between the third eye and light emphasizes the awakening of inner vision, spiritual awareness, and the ability to perceive and understand reality beyond the physical senses.

IMBALANCE

Do you experience difficulty making decisions, poor intuition, or lack of inspiration?

If there is an imbalance in the sixth chakra you may experience poor intuition, lack of concentration, impaired judgment, confusion, or expression.  With a blocked sixth chakra, only the mind, intellect, and ego are used in the decision-making process. Imbalances within the third eye chakra can manifest on a physical, emotional, or spiritual level.

Here’s a breakdown of what imbalance might mean in these aspects:

Physical Imbalance:

Headaches or migraines

Issues with vision or concentration

Sleep disorders or disturbances

Emotional Imbalance:

Overwhelming anxiety or fear

Lack of clarity or direction in life

Difficulty making decisions or trusting one’s intuition

Feeling disconnected from one’s inner self

Spiritual Imbalance:

Lack of spiritual insight or growth

Disconnection from higher self or spiritual purpose

Difficulty in accessing intuitive or psychic abilities

Balancing the third eye chakra involves various practices like meditation, visualization, energy healing, yoga, and mindfulness. Here are some approaches to balance the third eye chakra:

  • Meditation and Mindfulness: Regular meditation can help calm the mind and open up the third eye chakra. Focus on your breath and try to let go of distracting thoughts.

  • Visualization: Visualize a deep indigo light or a lotus flower at your forehead during meditation. Envision it opening and expanding.

  • Energy Healing: Reiki or other energy healing techniques can be used to balance and align the third eye chakra.

  • Yoga: Incorporate yoga poses that focus on the brow area, such as Child’s Pose, Downward Dog, or Seated Forward Bend.

  • Aromatherapy: Essential oils like lavender, frankincense, or sandalwood may be used to enhance the balancing process during meditation or relaxation.

  • Crystals: Crystals like amethyst, lapis lazuli, or clear quartz are often used to balance and activate the third eye chakra. Place them on your forehead during meditation.

It’s essential to listen to your body and emotions, and if you believe your third eye chakra is imbalanced, consider consulting a holistic healer or energy practitioner for guidance and assistance in balancing and aligning this energy center.
