The root chakra, or Muladhara, is located at the base of your spine. It provides you with a base or foundation for life, and it helps you feel grounded and able to withstand challenges. Your root chakra is responsible for your sense of security and stability.

The sacral chakra is believed to be the second chakra in the human body. It’s thought to govern how you experience sexuality, creative expression, emotions, and more. According to most traditions, it can become blocked and unbalanced, as can the other chakras in the body.

The Solar Plexus, or Manipura, refers to the third chakra. It spins in the area around the abdomen above the belly button up to the breastbone. Meaning “lustrous gem” in Sanskrit, the Manipura chakra provides a source of personal power and relates to self-esteem, warrior energy, and the power of transformation.

It is the fourth primary chakra and serves as our center of love for oneself and others, compassion, empathy, and forgiveness. The Anahata chakra is associated with unconditional love, compassion, and joy. It is the source of deep and profound truths that cannot be expressed in words.

As the throat chakra governs the mouth, tongue, and neck, it relates to communication and your ability to understand and speak your inner truth “purely”. The throat chakra (also known as Vishuddha) is responsible for communication, self-expression, and the ability to speak your personal truth.

The third eye refers to the Ajna (or brow) chakra. The third eye refers to the gate that leads to the inner realms and spaces of higher consciousness. In spirituality, the third eye often symbolizes a state of enlightenment.

Sahasrara or the crown chakra is considered the seventh primary chakra in some yoga traditions. This chakra is all about spiritual connection and transformation. It lifts and inspires you, connecting you to the divine (you might call this angelic energy, the Source, or God.) This chakra also gives you a sense of your own divinity, the awareness that you are a soul in a human body.
